In year 1 we have teachers Mrs Kirkbride and Miss High. As your child starts a new year in my class I would like to take this opportunity to let you know what your child will be learning and other important information for the Autumn term. We will be working really hard on settling back in and learning our routines, as well as really trying hard with our listening skills!

Homework will be handed out on a weekly basis and will consist of basis maths skills, general topic and reading/ spelling. They will receive their homework through class DOJO , and it will be sent out on a Friday – to be returned by class DOJO for the next Thursday.
PE is an important part of your child’s curriculum so they must participate, unless there is a genuine reason they cannot. If your child cannot join in, could you please send a letter to school excusing them from the lesson. Your child will need a PE kit (including trainers/ pumps) on a Tuesday and Thursday. Please leave their kit in school until the end of the half term.
Reading Books
Your child is expected to read a selection of books throughout the year. Children will bring reading books home and are expected to bring them back into school each day. Alongside this, children will bring a reading record book home, when you listen to your child read please write comments regarding the book, reading, enjoyment level etc. At school your child will be heard read by an adult and possibly other children- so this may be marked in the reading record too.
