The Summer Term topic in Year 1 is Seaside Holidays!

Throughout this topic we will be learning about popular seaside destinations around the UK and exploring possible ways to travel to these destinations. We will also explore what holidays were like in the past and how travel and holidays have changed over time.

We will travel to St Bee’s to support out learning and deepen our understanding in both History and Geography. During our visit we will identify natural and manmade features of the environment, follow and create a map and use natural materials to create artwork on the sand.

We have two Science topics to cover this term, Plants and Seasonal Changes.

In the Plants topic, we will be learning the names of and identifying many different types of plants and important parts of a plant.  We will also be using our scientific enquiry skills to investigate the conditions needed for healthy plant growth.

During the Seasonal Changes topic we will discuss types of weather and how the weather changes across the seasons. We will explore how plants and animals adapt to different seasonal conditions.

Year 1 will continue to focus on phonics, in readiness for the Year 1 Phonic screening assessment in June. We are working hard in our RWI lessons, reading lots of words and identifying the special friends, in order to secure our knowledge and become super readers.
