Our teacher is Mr Stilwell, working alongside him is Miss High, our teaching assistant. We want to develop a passion and thirst for learning in Year 2. Across our topics and in Literacy we cover both History and Geography objectives that create many opportunities for cross-curricular learning, creating exciting challenges each day that are delivered through carefully planned lessons that address the children’s learning styles and help develop their curiosity.

In Maths we use Maths No Problem, this programme ensures that all the small steps are taught so that pupils master the maths curriculum through fluency and problem solving.

In Literacy, pupils are split between two programmes, Read Write Inc. and Talk for Writing. Throughout Year 2 we want children to engage in and understand our key texts, develop their grammar, speaking and listening skills and build on ideas to write their own fiction and non-fiction texts

In the Summer Term, Year 2 are focusing on the topic ‘The Great Fire of London’ learning about the account that Samuel Pepys kept and having a go at writing our own account of the fire when writing in role.
In Geography we are continuing to use our map and atlas skills to compare the UK with Kenya, looking into the animals that we would find in Africa.
We are going to be listening to Music and describing the difference between different genres and styles, thinking about our own personal tastes. In Art we are going to be studying the work of a modern day artist from Canada called Roy Henry Vickers.
As we end the year, we are going to link up all the things we have learned in RE and start to make links between different religions.
