At Hensingham Primary School we believe that Computing is necessary to enable children to find, explore, analyse, exchange and present information. We develop the skills necessary for children to be able to use information in a discriminating and effective way. We understand that preparing children for the digital age gives children skills that will enable them to access future learning opportunities.
Our curriculum offer is built around the requirements of the National Curriculum for England.
Computing is taught in blocks throughout the year, so that children can achieve depth in their learning. Lessons build on prior learning, adding small steps that deepen pupils learning. We use a range of programs and resources that can be adapted to the needs and understanding of individual learners. Teachers have identified the key knowledge and skills of each topic and consideration has been given to ensure progression across the school. Children are specifically taught how to stay safe online as part of the PSHE/RSE curriculum.
Outcomes are normally saved in digital format. Evidence of learning is assessed by classroom staff. As children progress throughout the school, we want them all to develop a deeper knowledge and understanding of how Computing is a part of everyone’s daily life.
