At Hensingham Primary School, we believe that education extends far beyond the classroom. We are committed to providing a rich, broad and ambitious curriculum that develops the whole child, nurturing not only academic success but also character, confidence, creativity and aspiration.
Our curriculum is enhanced through a carefully planned programme of enrichment opportunities that ensure every pupil can experience new activities, discover talents, develop interests and build the skills they need for future success. We recognise that high-quality enrichment can have a significant impact on children’s wellbeing, achievement, motivation and personal development.
Our enrichment programme has been designed around the Government’s Enrichment Framework and reflects the six national areas of enrichment:
- Sports and Physical Activity

- Citizenship and Community
- Outdoor Learning and Adventurous Activity
- Skills for Life and Future Work
- Experiences, Celebration and Transition
Throughout the year, pupils take part in weekly enrichment sessions, allowing them to explore a wide range of activities that complement and enhance their learning. From mindfulness, yoga and team sports to performing arts, digital creativity, outdoor adventures, leadership opportunities and enterprise projects, every child has the chance to discover new passions and develop important life skills.
Our enrichment offer is carefully structured to build knowledge, skills and independence as children move through the school. Activities are designed with clear progression from Year 1 to Year 6, ensuring pupils continually develop confidence, resilience, teamwork, leadership and responsibility. Younger children are encouraged to explore and participate, whilst older pupils take on greater levels of challenge, decision-making and leadership.
The programme also reflects our core values of Respect, Responsibility, and Resilience, helping children to become confident, active and positive members of their community. We are proud that our enrichment sessions are fully inclusive, ensuring that every child can access meaningful experiences, develop their strengths and feel a sense of belonging.
